Frequently Asked Questions

UPDATED INFORMATION (12.13.06): With a recent change of hosting servers to serve you, my customers even better, there has been a small change in the e-mail configurations. Instead of just "username" (example: "jonny"), the new system requires an extra piece of information. The new username formula is USERNAME+YOURDOMAIN.COM.
(Ex: "jon+jhaasdesign.com").

The other change is the security of the outgoing mail servers to avoid spammers who would otherwise maliciously use your mail servers to send out spam. Somewhere in your e-mail configuration, there will be an option to CONFIGURE SMTP, which is your outgoing mail server. These need to be set to Secure/Password and you must enter your username and password in the same manner that you use them to set-up your incoming mail box.

How can I get my email to work with MSN as my ISP?

MSN is implementing a spam filtering system on their e-mail servers.
To send email as "yourdomain.com" while you're logged into MSN, you'll need to configure your Outgoing mail (SMTP) server information to ensure that all of your outbound e-mail is sent through the MSN SMTP mail servers. To do this, follow the instructions below. Repeat these instructions for each additional account you have set up in Outlook Express.

  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. Click Tools, and then click Accounts.
  3. Click your additional ISP account name in the list.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click Servers.
  6. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP): replace the existing server name with smtp.email.msn.com.
  7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, select the My server requires authentication check box.
  8. Click Settings.
  9. Select the Log on using option.
  10. Type your MSN user name in the Account Name box. Do not include the domain portion of your user name (the part that begins with the @ symbol).

  12. Select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication check box.
  13. Click OK.
